Difference Between ECG And ECHO

                                                Difference Between ECG And ECHO

An electrocardiogram (ECG) & echocardiogram test are used by doctors to evaluate heart health in terms of functionality and detect any abnormality. These are preliminary test categories of investigations post which doctors may ask to undergo further conclusive tests in case any abnormality is detected.

Electrocardiogram/ECG

Our heart functions through electrical impulses that make the heart pump blood to the body. ECG traces these electrical activities and converts them into a graphical format. These graphs are evaluated by doctors to assess heart health.

The test is conducted by placing electrodes on various parts of the body. There are 12 such electrodes placed over the arm, legs, and chest in pre-defined locations to capture the signals.

 Echocardiogram/ ECHO

An echocardiogram, or echo for short, is an ultrasound procedure that with the help of a hand-held probe produces images of the heart in activity. The visuals are produced by high-frequency sound waves, which also demonstrate how well the heart can pump blood. A Doppler ultrasonography or Color Doppler may be used in conjunction with an echo to help doctors determine how well a patient's blood is moving through their heart valves.

Difference Between ECG And ECHO

An ECG/EKG and echo are both non-invasive and painless procedures. Both tests have no negative side effects. While an Echo could take anywhere from 20 to an hour, an ECG/EKG can be completed in around five minutes. The timing and results of the two examinations are their primary distinctions. An echo demonstrates the workings of the heart's mechanics. Whereas in ECG the heart rhythm is primarily evaluated and displayed via a graph

It's crucial to realize that each of these tests can be used in conjunction with one another because they yield different data. They help to better understand a patient's cardiac health when taken together.

What are the conditions that can be detected by the difference between ECG and ECHO?

ECG helps in evaluating rhythm disorders, arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, heart attacks, and cardiomyopathy

ECHO on the other hand helps to identify issues with the heart's major blood arteries and the pericardium. Heart blood clots and also examines for unusual holes in the heart.

ECG and ECHO are frequently advised diagnostic tools that help to detect problems with the heart's muscles, valves, or rhythm. These tests are quite important when it comes to diagnosing the exact nature of heart problems. The best part about these tests is that they are quite simple, affordable, and completely non-invasive.
